The
Jaap Eden Ice rink opened 9th december
1961 and was, after Budapest, the 2nd 400 meter
artificial Ice rink in the world. In the first year
already more then 300.000 visitors came to skate at
this ice rink. Nowadays more then 625.000 visitors
come to skate every season at this one of the last
open air Ice rinks.
The open air 30x60 m track was in 1973 replaced by
the Edenhal. Here the history of Dutch Shorttrack
started. In 1977 the first Open Dutch Championship
Shorttrack was held here with a follow up in 1978
and 1979. Later 29 editions of the Open Dutch
Championships for Juniors would follow.
Besides many concerts like ABBA and Frank Zappa,
also many international Shorttrack competitions were
held in the Edenhal with Worldchampionships in 1985
and 1990.
With 5 years on a row the National Championships of
Shorttrack and the Europacup StarClass competition
we conclude the modern history of Shorttrack in
Amsterdam. |
